Thoughts on Technology Uptake
Participants were asked to quickly share any ideas they had on technology 'uptake' in the Mega Program. Ideas included:
- Technology should be robust enough to require minimum formal dissemination efforts
- Identified constraints mostly did not need new technological inputs, rather uptake of existing technologies, approaches, practices
- Previous experience shows that technologies get taken up when there is a robust link to markets and the whole value chain. I am optimistic about it if we use the approach/framework well.
- Better integrated value chain and techology in changing markets
- technology uptake calls for private sector/entrepreneur involvement
- labour productivity needs to be assessed as well as labour allocatioon in households
- generic and inexpensive medicine
- deal with real problems
- closer assessment of urgent needs of producers through value chains analysis
- partnerships are key
- incentives matter a lot / at different levels
- private public partnership
- effective extension network
- develop/reinforce researcher/extensionist platform
- integration by all value chain stakeholders in this consortium with members putting their expertise forward
- engage stakeholders and actors at all stages
- participatory approach to promote uptake
- demand-driven technologies
- consioder cultural values of communities
- consultation with users from the start
- involve end users more in setting up research agenda
- need to involve a wider group of stakeholders, including farmers, in setting the research agenda
