Proposed Schedule for Workshop on Realizing the Potential of Animal Source Foods for Human Nutrition in the Developing World 2-3 February 2015 LCIRAH, London OBJECTIVE To outline an immediate set of short-term research needs and opportunities and a more long-term research and coalition-building agenda that supports and strengthens the role of Animal Source Foods (ASF) in efforts to improve nutrition and food security for low-income populations in developing country settings. The meeting will explore how such an agenda could be shaped as a major research and policy initiative. The output expected from the meeting will be agreed upon directions for a coordinated research agenda and grant proposals moving forward, and options for a high-level event on the topic.

Identify potential partners not present
13:00-14:00 Lunch break
14:00-15:30 Working groups report back to main group and full discussion on action items and outreach
15:30-15:45 Coffee break
15:45-17:00 Summarize conclusions
Discuss next steps towards a high level event, and ST action items

  1. Food safety strategies that improve quality while enhancing rather than restricting access by the poor (can be pitched to make local markets more effective in delivering quality nutrients)
  1. Nutrition interventions to optimize use and benefits (education, school feeding programs that stimulate local production, etc.)
