Program Planning & Management Unit Tom Randolph - Program Director Centre: ILRI, Kenya Tom is responsible for the overall implementation of the program to ensure that the program realizes its objectives and the desired impact.

Barbara Rischkowsky – ICARDA Focal point, Program Planning and Management Committee member Centre: ICARDA, Ethiopia Barbara is ICARDA’s representative in the Program Planning and Management Committee (PPMC) as well as coordinator of the small ruminant value chain in Ethiopia. She leads the small ruminant group at ICARDA coordinating ICARDA's contributions to the program. Michael Peters – CIAT Focal point, Program Planning and Management Committee member Centre: CIAT, CALI Michael coordinates CIAT inputs in the program and PPMC member responsible for reviewing the program. He is the leader of the tropical forages group and works on forages research within the program. Michael Philips - Program Planning and Management Committee member Centre: WorldFish, Penang Michael, is the science leader on aquaculture and a member of the PPMC responsible for reviewing the program and WorldFish representative on aquaculture, Feeds and forages, Genetics, and Animal health. Stuart Worsley - Head of Development Partnership Centre: ILRI, Kenya Stuart is head of development partnerships for the program and responsible for leveraging partnerships with development actors for impact at scale in program value chains.

Value Chain Development Theme Acho Okike (ILRI) - Value Chain Development Theme Leader Centre: ILRI, Nigeria Acho backstops the value chain coordinators and teams across the four centres (ILRI, WorldFish, ICARDA and CIAT) working in the program to ensure that technology development is driven by the real world context of agricultural value chains.

Froukje Kruijssen (WorldFish) – Scientist Centre: WorldFish, Malaysia Froukje is the WorldFish value chain development theme focal point where she contributes to program level work e.g. value chain tools development. She leads an output under the gender theme and a member of the WorldFish Livestock and Fish program leadership team. Themes she works in: Targeting, Value chain development theme

Paula Kantor (WorldFish) - Scientist, Gender Centre: WorldFish, Malaysia Paula is the gender theme focal point where she leads an output under the gender theme. She is a member of the WorldFish Livestock and Fish leadership team. Paula provides support to program’s gender strategy output 3 on gender transformative approaches and supports gender integration in the aquaculture value chains. Egypt Small and Medium-scale Aquaculture Malcolm Dickson – Egypt Value Chain Coordinator Centre: WorldFish, Penang Malcolm manages the SDC-funded IEIDEAS project in Egypt which frames the fish value chain work in Egypt and is a member of the WorldFish Livestock and Fish leadership team. Themes he works in: Gender, Impact and Learning, Targeting, Value chain development theme

Kate Longley – Scientist Centre: WorldFish, Penang Kate is the Monitoring & Evaluation theme focal point for WorldFish. She is involved in value chain work (development of data collection tools) and is a member of the WorldFish Livestock and Fish leadership team. Gamal, el-Naggar - Scientist, Country Director - Egypt Centre: WorldFish, Egypt Gamal is responsible for assuring the implementation and execution of all program related activities in Egypt through leading the working team on the ground and liaising with partners involved in the project. Bangladesh Small and Medium-scale Aquaculture Ben Belton – Bangladesh Value Chain Coordinator Centre: WorldFish, Penang Ben coordinates activities for the Bangladesh small and medium-scale aquaculture.

Nicaragua Dual Purpose Cattle Rein van der Hoek (CIAT) – Nicaragua Value Chain Coordinator Centre: CIAT, Nicaragua Rein coordinate activities related to the Nicaragua dual purpose cattle value chain. Rein is involved in value chain analysis, project implementation, identifying and involving partners, fund raising, linking with other Livestock and Fish value chains and research themes.

Carlos Rodriguez (CIAT) - Agropecuarian Engineer Forage Program Research Assistant Centre: CIAT, Nicaragua Carlos is responsible for the project "Integration of new forage hybrids to intensify agriculture and to mitigate climate change through regulation of nitrification in soil" whose activities contribute to the Livestock and Fish program. Implemented in New Guinea and and Camoapa, Nicaragua. Themes he works in: Feeds and forages

Tanzania Dairy Value Chain Amos Omore (ILRI) - Tanzania Value Chain Coordinator Centre: ILRI, Tanzania Amos coordinates the Tanzania dairy value chain activities through animal health research and policy engagements. Themes he works in: Value chain development theme, Animal health

Birthe Paul - Research Fellow Centre: CIAT, Nicaragua Birthe contributes to the design of an ex-ante environmental impact assessment framework for dairy value chains in East Africa. Birthe’s focus is on the contribution of forage technologies to sustainable intensification of mixed-crop livestock systems. Themes she works in: Targeting, Feeds and forages

Aden Aw-Hassan (ICARDA) – Economist Centre: ICARDA, Ethiopia Aden is the director of the social economics & policy research program at ICARDA and contributes to the market value analysis, diagnostics phase and evaluation of the impacts of potential improvement interventions,

Jane Wamatu - Small Ruminant Nutritionist Centre: ICARDA, Ethiopia Jane works on small ruminants where she is responsible for resource and nutritional characterization of livestock feeds, characterization of feeding systems and strategies, Identification and development of sustainable food-feed resource options and development of feeding strategies. Themes she works in: Feeds and forages, Value chain development theme

Annet Mulema (ILRI) - Social Scientist, Gender Centre: ILRI, Ethiopia Annet mainstreams gender in the livestock value chain to increase production and income amongst resource poor farmers while conserving the natural resource base. She develops and test approaches and tools to increase the participation and benefits for women in livestock value chains; identify approaches to mainstream household gender considerations so that they inform the selection of technologies and practices for sustainable agricultural intensification. Annet contributes to the understanding of gender differentiation within households to facilitate design of innovations which are both gender-equitable and more adoptable; conduct baseline studies; and organize innovation platforms which directly address the needs of smallholder farmers.

Uganda Pigs Value Chain Danilo A. Pezo - Project Coordinator, Smallholder Pig Value Chains in Uganda, Uganda Value Chain Coordinator Centre: ILRI, Uganda Danilo provides overall scientific leadership for the pig project in Uganda, explore and develop partnerships, liaise with the program activities on pig value chain in Vietnam, coordinate the IFAD/EU project and manage the ILRI Office in Kampala.

Emily Ouma (ILRI) - Agricultural Economist Centre: ILRI, Uganda Emily carry’s out value chain analysis research work in the Uganda pig value chain including identifying constraints and pro-poor opportunities for improving the value chain. She also assesses the financial, economic and social feasibility of identified interventions and monitoring gender dimensions as well as constraints to adoption.

Michel Dione (ILRI) - Post-Doctoral Fellow Centre: ILRI, Uganda Michel is in charge of the animal health component of the Uganda Small-holder Pig Value Chains project. His activities are mainly focus on the use of participatory tools, combined with laboratory research to study the epidemiology of diseases that have an impact on pig production. Michel is also involved in designing and evaluating pilot interventions based on a package of technical and organizational strategies to improve pig health. Themes he works in: Animal health

Natalie Carter - Visiting Scientist Centre: ILRI, Uganda Natalie is responsible for developing least-cost balanced diets for pigs using seasonally available local feedstuffs. She will also be investigating gender distribution of labour and other factors related to pig feeding.

TS Vamsidhar Reddy - National Coordinator, Value Chain Country Leader Centre: ILRI, India Vamsi coordinates the Indian dairy value chain activities of the program. Promoting innovations with value chains as the organizing principle is his area of interest / work.

Vietnam Pigs Value Chain Fred Unger - Value Chain Country Leader Centre: ILRI, Vietnam Fred coordinate activities related to the Vietnam pigs value chain. Fred is involved in value chain analysis, project implementation, identifying and involving partners, fund raising, linking with other Livestock and Fish value chains and research themes.

Feeds and Forages Michael Blummel - Feeds and Forages Theme Leader Centre: ILRI, India Michael is responsible for leading strategy development, activity planning and reporting across the centers. He helps identify and lead partnership and proposal development at the program level. He is an animal nutritionist with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI).

John Miles - Plant breeder, Tropical Forages Program Centre: CIAT, Colombia John is a plant breeder and he is responsible for plant breeding (cultivar development) in two Brachiaria species groups within the theme.

Mario Cuchillo Hilario - Animal Nutritionist Specialist Centre: CIAT, Colombia Mario investigates how to improve the utilization of tropical pastures for animal nutrition. His research is directed to find adequate methods to preserve nutritive properties of tropical legumes and grasses during silage making for animal feeding. Sustainable intensification of forage-based systems on tropical conditions and mitigation of GHG are other topics of his interest.

Brigitte Maass - Researcher, CIAT Tropical Forages Program Centre: CIAT, Kenya, Kenya Themes she works in: Tanzania dairy; Uganda pigs; Value chain development theme

Muhi El-Dine, Hilali (ICARDA) - Post-Doctoral - Dairy Technologist Centre: ICARDA, Jordan Muhi is responsible for conducting research on quality of dairy products in relation to animal nutrition and market demands for the improvement of product quality and safety and to enhance market access of small scale producers. Also, the responsibilities include the development and implementation of improved dairy processing technologies and the introduction of new dairy products that are suitable for small scale processors and women dairy processing cooperatives. The supervision of laboratory analysis of milk quality is within the responsibilities. He participates in training activities in cooperation with NARS partners, and International and advanced research institutions.

Bernard Lukuyu - Animal Nutritionist Centre: ILRI, Kenya Bernard supports and conducts productivity enhancing Animal Nutrition research activities on the MilkIT project in Tanzanian, Uganda Pigs value chain and some activities with Feeds and Forages under More MilkIt project on the Tanzanian dairy value chains. Themes he works in: Tanzania dairy; Uganda pigs

KVSV Prasad - Scientific Officer Centre: ILRI, India Prasad is responsible for ILRI’s Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) analytical FOSS based facilities and networks mainly in Hyderabad but also support such analysis/networks at Global platforms in cross countries, especially in Africa. He updates and validates NIRS calibration models and conduct required conventional chemical, micro biological and high through put state of the art facility instrumentation (HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, AAS, ICP and MS etc) laboratories. He supports livestock nutritional in vitro and in vivo work particularly for measurements of greenhouse gases by tracer techniques of GC methods.

Mallampalli Saibutcharao – Research Associate Centre: ILRI/CIAT, India Mallampalli support the feeding trails, feed processing, fodder market linkages and experimental livestock health management.

Gender, Impact and Learning Wanjiku Chiuri - Gender support Centre: CIAT, Rwanda Wanjuku provides gender research in general and in particular mainstreaming and gender analysis support. Themes she works in: Gender, Feeds and forages

Keith Child – Principal Scientist, Impact Assessment and Learning Centre: ILRI, Kenya Keith is responsible for providing strategic guidance to the monitoring, evaluation and learning systems within the Livestock and Fish Program. He supports the program to understand its overall impact on the lives of beneficiaries and to help translate lessons learnt into a continuous cycle of program innovation.

Alessandra Galie - Social Scientist, Gender Centre: ILRI, Kenya Alessandra is involved in integrating gender issues in ILRI's dairy value chain work in Tanzania by: supporting the capacity of partners in adopting gender-sensitive approaches to diagnose and overcome gender based constraints within the value chains; contributing to develop gender strategies and approaches to improve the nature and level of participation of women and marginalized groups in livestock and fish value chains; creating opportunities for collaboration on gender issues with local partners; and contributing to writing new projects on gender mainstreaming or gender strategic research. Alessandra is also the ILRI focal point for gender in the Livestock and Fish program. Themes she works in: Tanzania dairy, Value chain development theme

Alejandra Mora - Gender Expert Centre: ILRI/CIAT, Nicaragua Alejandra is responsible for identifying and generating gender strategies and tools for Nicaragual dual purpose cattle value chain analysis and development that increase and improve the participation of women and marginalized groups in Nicaragua. She identifies value chain partners interested in including gender issues to their work. Alejandra contributes to the gender tool development of the program and to publications of the gender strategy of the program.

Nils Teufel - Agricultural Economist Centre: ILRI, Kenya Nils supports the development and implementation of the Monitoring and Evaluation framework, develop, design & guide implementation of impact assessment studies including ex-ante assessments.

Michael Kidoido (ILRI) - Agricultural Economist Centre: ILRI, Kenya Michael develops and implements research on the multiple roles of livestock in rural livelihoods and how livestock’s contribution to poverty alleviation can be enhanced. Specifically his responsibilities include supporting implementation of monitoring, evaluation and learning strategies for the Livestock and Fish program and other large ILRI programs.

Genetics John Benzie - Genetics Theme Leader Centre: WorldFish, Malaysia John is responsible for leading strategy development, activity planning and reporting within the genetics theme across the centers. John helps identify and lead partnership and proposal development at the program level. He is a member of the WorldFish Livestock and Fish leadership team. Themes he works in: Targeting, Value chain development theme

Karen Marshall - Animal Genetics Theme ILRI Focal Point Centre: ILRI, Kenya Karen is responsible for taking ILRI’s research interests and strategies to inform program planning, while representing the program's interests and strategies to ensure that the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) research is appropriately framed. He provides the program's perspective to researchers and program leaders responsible for developing work plans and budget; monitors implementation; compiles program reporting; helps identify and lead partnership and proposal development.

Jacobo Arango - Post-Doctoral Fellow Centre: CIAT, Colombia Jacobo provide reliable phenotipic data and generate new methods to measure Biological NItrification Potential in Brachiaria grasses.

Halima Mogesse - Animal Geneticist (Consultant) Centre: ICARDA, Ethiopia Halima is responsible for characterizing, utilizing and conserving the small ruminant genetic resources in the CWANA region.

Fidalis Denis Mujibi – Scientist Centre: ILRI, Kenya Fidalis responsibilities include determination of the appropriate genotypes for small-holder dairy farmers by matching breed composition and genomic profiles to phenotypic performance; coordination of field activities, questionnaire administration and routine longitudinal data collection; Analysis of performance, genotypic and genomic data derived from sample populations; Assessment of breed and genetic diversity and phylogenetic analysis; Assessment of haplotype diversity and Breed composition of crossbred cattle; Association analysis for economically important traits in cattle; Development of custom SNP chips for breed identification and management purposes. Julie Ojango - Scientist, Animal breeding strategies Centre: ILRI, Kenya Within the animal breeding strategies team, Julie: Develops decision support tools to generate information for quantifying and assessing opportunities and challenges for improved livestock genetics under small-holder production systems; Carrys out qualitative and quantitative analyses to support decisions of practitioners and other stakeholders in setting priorities for development and investments in dairy production; Develops strategies for formulating graduated breeding programs with supporting interventions tailored to context-specific intensification of small-scale production systems; Identifies technologies and strategies to improve access to and enable better use of either existing or more optimal breeds for dairy production in target areas; Develops and strengthens capacity for sustainable use of animal genetic resources in developing countries. Karen Marshall - Scientist, Animal breeding and genetics Centre: ILRI, Kenya Karen is the principal investigator for the 'Senegal Dairy Genetics' project which aims to evaluate the socio-economic benefit of keeping different breed-types of dairy cattle in Senegal small and medium hold dairy production systems. She offers support to activities in the pig (Uganda and Vietnam) value chains, particularly around the use of genetic resources. Karen inputs into development of the value chain rapid assessment tool-kit, for the animal genetic resources / breeding component. Tadelle Dessie - Scientist, Animal breeding strategies Centre: ILRI, Ethiopia Tadelle is Involved in genetics and breeding technology and value chain development for Ethiopia small ruminants and identifying and delivering appropriate livestock genetics in developing countries in general. Themes he works in: Ethiopia small ruminants

Animal Health Philip Toye – Theme Leader Centre: ILRI, Kenya Philip is responsible for leading strategy development, activity planning and reporting across the centers within the animal health theme. He helps identify and lead partnership and proposal development at the program level.

Mingyan Yu - Post-Doctoral Scientist Centre: ILRI, Kenya Mingyan is responsible for establishing a transgenic cattle model with resistance to African trypanosomiasis. She maintain’s the running of embryology lab and perform experiments like in vitro fertilisation and embryo vitrification. Themes she works in: Genetics

Roger Pelle - Molecular Biologist Scientist Centre: ILRI, Kenya Roger’s responsibilities are to (1) determine the extent of variation of identified CD8 T cell antigens in the field populations of T. parva, (2) construct, express and purify recombinant Tp1 and p67 for evaluation as candidate vaccine antigens against ECF, (3) generate and test new sporozoite and schizont candidate antigens to be included in ECF sub-unit vaccines, (4) determine the MHC class I of African pig populations for understanding the epidemiology of African swine fever ( as a prerequisite for mitigation of disease impact on pig-keeping in East Africa), (5) contribute to project planning and development and capacity building.

Steve Kemp (ILRI) - Animal Biosciences Team Leader Centre: ILRI, Kenya Steve is leads the projects on reproductive technology and sample management. He is involved in developing and supporting molecular aspects of breeding work. Themes he works in: Genetics

She helps identify and lead partnership and proposal development at the program level.

Mats Lannerstad - Targeting Sustainable Interventions Theme ILRI focal point Centre: ILRI, Kenya Mats Lannerstad is responsible for taking ILRI’s research interests and strategies to inform program planning, while representing the program’s interests and strategies to ensure that the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) research is appropriately framed. He provides the program’s perspective to researchers and program leaders responsible for developing work plans and budget; monitors implementation; compiles program reporting; helps identify and lead partnership and proposal development.

Tim Robinson - Targeting Sustainable Interventions Centre: ILRI, Kenya Tim Robinson contributes spatial analysis and statistical expertise to the theme.

Capacity Development Diana Brandes – van Dorresteijn - Capacity Development Specialist Centre: ILRI, Kenya Diana leads the capacity development work in the program.

Communications Peter Ballantyne (ILRI) - Head, Knowledge Management and Information Services (KMIS) Centre: ILRI, Ethiopia Peter is the overall coordination of the 'Communication, Advocacy, Data and Knowledge Management' component of the program.

Evelyn Katingi - Information and Communications Officer Centre: ILRI, Kenya Evelyn is responsible for supporting access and exchange of program research information and news through the various program communications channels, managing program communication tools and providing various communication support to team members.

Shadi Azadegan - Communications Specialist , Central America and the Caribbean Centre: CIAT, Nicaragua Shadi is responsible for developing written and visual material to provide coverage of program activities being carried out in Nicaragua, promoting interaction with current and potential partner organizations, aiding in the organization and implementation of program events, and developing communication materials for the dissemination of project results to various audiences.

Diane Shohet (WorldFish) - Director, Communications and Donor Relations Centre: WorldFish, Malaysia Diane is a member of the WorldFish Livestock and Fish leadership team.

Management and Program Support Patricia Rainey (ILRI) - Program Support Coordinator Centre: ILRI, Kenya Patricia support the program in respect of budgets, work planning, indicator data aggregation and reporting. She also plays a role in program monitoring and management of evaluations. Patricia serves as the program’s evaluation focal point for the IEA.

Carlos Alonso - Director, Finance & Administration Centre: WorldFish, Malaysia Carlos is a member of the WorldFish Livestock and Fish leadership team.

Vennavaram Mohan Reddy - Executive Associate (Admin.) Centre: ILRI, India Vennavaram is responsible for day-to-day administrative jobs of ILRI Office in Hyderabad, India.

Ban Swee, Tan (WorldFish) - Business Manager Centre: WorldFish, Malaysia Ban Swee Tan provides administrative support to the program.

Absolomon Kihara - Biorepository Manager Centre: ILRI, Kenya Absolomon supports the different teams in the program in proper sample and data collection. He supports the teams in acquiring the proper tools and systems that they use to properly document their samples and also properly collect their data.
