USAID Linkage Funds

USAID has developed a program called the CGIAR-U.S. University Linkages Program designed to support collaborative research between U.S. universities or USDA and the CGIAR in the seven program areas of the Feed the Future Food Security Innovation Centre (FSIC). These are

  • Climate resilient cereals
  • Legume productivity
  • Advanced Approaches to combat pests and diseases
  • Nutritious and safe foods
  • Markets and policy research and support
  • Sustainable intensification
  • Human and institutional capacity development

Joint research activities aim to offer

  • Potential contribution to program priorities (i.e. outputs identified in our logical framework, especially those which are not being addressed adequately)
  • Potential to leverage new funding e.g. through joint proposal development
  • Equitable participation of the partner Centers, which may favour multiple smaller projects
  • Promotion of cross-Center and cross-CRP collaboration
  • Value for money
  • Ability to leverage expertise for program priorities not available internally within the partner centers, particularly with regard to exploring new scientific approaches and tools, and particularly with respect to:

human nutrition impact assessment capability herd health veterinary service delivery value chain economics innovation systems

In 2013 and 2014, two calls were made, research proposals presented and awards made. This set of pages acts as a repository for calls made, proposals received and reports prepared.
